2012 has been a quiet year for me, there has not been too many shows on the agenda however I still have a few favourites from throughout the year & thought I might aswell jump on the 'shots of 2012' bandwagon.

I still have a few to edit from Parkway Drive, I Killed The Prom Queen & Northlane the other night however I'll make a separate entry for those.

Look forward to seeing what 2013 may bring.

I'll start off with the two pop shows of the year which I covered for Frontier Touring, both shoots required from the mixing desk.

The Soundwave Team attempted to put on a second show in it's festival cycle, while unfortunately the original product didn't go ahead they still managed to tour some great bands in a mini festival to keep the keen punters happy and prepare them for the summer gig period.

The Perth scene somewhat let us down in ticket sales which meant the show was downgraded from Challenge Stadium to Amplifer/Capitol which ended up having some benefits as you wouldn't get to see some of these bands in an intimate pub environment anymore, nor would they have been mingling/drinking with the fans as much in an arena setting.

Unfortunately fulltime work got the best of me prior to the show so I did not shoot as many bands as I could have, however I hope you like some of the shots below from We Are The Ocean, The Damned Things, Hellogoodbye, We Are The In Crowd, Alesana, Story Of The Year, Yellowcard, All Time Low & Panic! At The Disco.

I thought I would do up a little entry as it is now coming up to my 5th anniversary covering the Soundwave Festival since it's torrential rain soaked inception at Sydney Park in 2007 where Deftones headlined, from there is has expanded probably beyond the organisers expectations in it's short life span. The festival now covers all major cities within Australia & has increased from it's 2 main stages + 1 metal stage to a total of 8 stages which span genres from rock, metal to punk & ska.

I'll be covering Perth 2011 at the newly announced venue of Claremont Showgrounds, my day is going to be shooting the following: Sevendust, Devildriver (again), Stone Sour, Murderdolls, Primus, Slash, Ill Nino, Slayer (again), 30STM, Rob Zombie, The Bronx, QOTSA & Iron Maiden...while trying to squeeze in any others at the time

Here are a selection of my favourite shots from Sydney 2007 - Perth 2010. I think it also shows how I've progressed as a photographer as such as well, the earlier pictures are more raw compared to the framing/composition of the shots from last year. Hopefully I can continue to cover the event for years to come

(one day reaching Kane Hibberds level) but that's another story

This years Soundwave Festival was highly anticipated by the public who have attended in the last few years, the event has each year been able to provide a line-up that impressed & 2009 is no different. One thing that is different is the location, after spending two years at Sydney Park - St Peters they've shipped out west to Eastern Creek Raceway, eliminating noise restrictions (among other things) but venturing out of the easily accessible CBD area, the reaction to the announcement came with mixed reactions but overall I don't think anyone REALLY minds travelling the extra distance for the bands they have imported this year!

I've been lucky to shoot the 2007 + 2008 events & again I've been approved to shoot again for a third year in a row (though I bought my ticket just in case as my credentials have since changed)

 Monday, 27 October 2008

It's been 3 years since Slipknot we're in town & once again they came, and destroyed the stage.

This time around they had the full production show & a setlist which had a lot of Self Titled tracks, despite releasing the new album only weeks ago.

Earlier in the afternoon I made my way to Utopia with a decent sized print of my Machine Head shot of Adam/Rob for the band to sign & Adam was definitely impressed with the shot, he requested a copy for himself....we'll see if he gets in contact with me in the next couple of weeks.

Sydonia opened the show with their revised & heavier set list, carving up the stage for about 20-25 minutes before the first interval which brought on Machine Head, chants of "Machine Fuckin Head" started straight away & the band (as usual) brought a mass amount of energy to the table with Rob Flynn getting the circle pits going every chance he could

Unfortunately a plague of power outages (first of which happened in the opening song) wreaked havoc on their set & Rob ended up storming off stage with a dictionary of expletives towards Acer Arena....

After our 3 song limit for MH, we were escorted back stage to leave our camera gear in a secured room much to our displeasure, instead Jessica & I remained in the back carpark area where my good friend Dana (Sydonia's Guitarist/Vocals) was talking with Jim Root (Guitarist of Slipknot/Stone Sour) & I had great pleasure in discussing random things with him such as their first tour right through to the smell you get from earrings which is now known as "Schmebob" - I chose not to bother him asking for a fan photo, figure he would sick of that shit by now.

By the time Slipknot were ready to come on, the crowd were going nuts...perfect choice of opening songs - Surfacing & Get This

Crowd pleasers: Liberate, Psychosocial, Spit It Out & of course Joey's Solo on the hydraulic lifted Drum Kit
